Which Project captcha question confusing to Drupal users new to CiviCRM
September 04, 2012, 09:19:23 am
I don't see this question when I post to the forum (because I'm verified?), but someone I was trying to help get more involved in CiviCRM wasted a lot of time trying to post to the forum because of confusion over the use of "Project" in the captcha new users must complete when posting to the forum.

For Drupal users, the Project is the name of the module or collection of modules you are posting an issue for.  So if you were having an issue with CiviEvent, on Drupal.org that would be the Project you'd select.  If you type that here, your post is rejected.

I understand the need to verify that posts are coming from people and not bots, but I think the UI here would fail any usability testing for Drupal users.  Is there a log of the number of post attempts that get the image captcha correct, but the Project question wrong?

I posted the screenshots to the CiviCRM Drupal group because they are larger that 64k!

I'm sure most people eventually figure that out, but it isn't a great first impression for Drupal users new to CiviCRM.

Hi kreynen,
Thanks for posting this concern here. We have had a bunch of problems with spambots on the forums and wikis which we are trying to deal with by these pesky questions. Could you suggest a different wording for the question? What about: "Type in the name of the open source CRM project that this forum belongs to:"

Don't use the term "project" at all.  That means something different to Drupal users when posting issues.  To Drupal users, CiviEvent, CiviMail and CiviMember would all be projects.  What about...

What letters are missing from C_v_CRM?
