Contributions for Household Contacts
September 06, 2012, 09:58:23 am
Hi,

New to Civi with a question on "out-of-the-box" functionality as it relates to household/linked contacts.

We're building a membership site with Drupal/Civi and have stumbled upon an interesting requirement. We need to create a discounted membership type for family memberships. The family/discount membership needs to be linked to a full price membership (same home address is required) - this is done manually from the back office, so no need for any verification in online registration.

The additional (and sticky) requirement is that the full price membership needs to be able to renew or pay for the discounted membership at the time of their own renewal.

Can this be achieved through Civi's household relationship system or by creating a unique discounted membership type and somehow linking the discounted membership to a full price membership?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Civi's membership online forms currently only process organization memberships and a single individual employee 'on behalf of' that org.  This is creating an 'employee' relationship between the individual and organization.   The membership belongs to the organization and the employee 'inherits' the membership via the relationship.

This functionality for households exists, but it does NOT work for an online form.    That means this household membership online forms would have to be developed at significant expense.    CiviCRM is community funded software, and thus the funding or sponsorship for household online forms has not be created because it has not been sponsored yet.

If you have serious interest and possible funding I suggest you contact Dave Greenberg about a Make It Happen initiative.
