CiviCRM Integration to WordPress
September 06, 2012, 10:41:13 pm
Hello,

I was wondering if you could help me with some advice please. I am currently developing a website in WordPress where I wish to integrate the CiviCRM - saying that - I am very new to CiviCRM. Before I go any further, I need to explain few things.

CiviCRM is currently being customized by another development team (who knows how to do it, since I don't). It will mostly be used to provide search function about community radio stations. The question I have is: What information do I require from developers in order to integrate it into WordPress. Or what do they have to do to in order for me to integrate it into wordpress at later stage?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Jaan

What exactly is your current situation? You have a WordPress site and they are developing a CiviCRM site on a different site? Is it also WordPress? What are the versions of WordPress and CiviCRM?

Yes, we have WordPress site and CiviCRM is being developed. I don't actually know what version they are using nor what site on. So I should start off with determining with that?

We are using latest WordPress version.

Yes. Ask them what CMS and ask them what exactly they are doing...

Hi,

Thanks for that, I have found out those details. They are developing it in Drupal and CiviCRM v is 3.4.4. - Now will it be possible to integrate from Drupal to WordPress? If so - what do I need to know from them.

Thank you for all the help so far.

Yes, it is possible to migrate a CiviCRM from Drupal to WordPress, but only CiviCRM itself. If they are building any functionality that depends on Drupal, that will be lost.

Sounds like there is a lack of communication between your teams.

Thank you for this answer.

The teams indeed to not communicate between eachother, due to various reasons.

I had another question that I hope you don't mind answering. Can CiviCRM information be displayed in side bar on WordPress. More over can it display randomly generated information? What civiCRM will be mostly used is for community radio stations, where stations can go and put their info in and then public can search for them. Additional to that we would like to also display a random station in side bar, taking a random station from CiviCRM. Can that be done? If so - how?

Thank you in advance
J

Yes, you could write custom code to fetch that data from CiviCRM using the public APIs: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC41/CiviCRM+Public+APIs
