CiviSMTP Account Settings Test fails

I get this error message when checking the test settings box on the CiviSMTP Account Settings page

Civimail User Check : could not authenticate because: Using $this when not in object context

The civimail user is the drupal user right?  I am using the correct credentials for user 1 here.  What's up?

correct, the Civimail user is the Drupal/Joomla user used for SOAP authentication.

Please email us your account name to civismtp at uas dot coop and we'll look into it.

This issue was due to a bug, patch is available here:
