Advanced search and display results as "cases"
September 10, 2012, 05:40:36 am
Hey all,

We may have noticed a small issue with the advanced search and attempting to return results as cases:

Use case - client is attempting to find and export a list of cases where the have an activity with a custom field value

They search for:

- Activity type "eg. Long term housing plan"
- Activity dates "x" - "y"
- Ensure long term housing plan has a custom field attached
- Display results as "cases"

Export Results - the type of results that are exported appears to come back as contacts rather then cases.

Have set up a quick check on the sandbox (D7 - http://sandbox.drupal.civicrm.org/civicrm) and appears to have the same issue (try doing the search above)

We're also noting an issue with the total number of results on our clients system (where we have thousands of cases) but I'm not sure we can create enough cases in the sandbox to check this but I think it may be linked to the above.

If you can point us in the right direction I think we may be able to submit a patch for this, but the code for the advance search looks pretty complex!

Best

J

hey j:

can u ping me on irc and you can help debug and fix this. The best bet would be to see what queries are generated and see how we might be able to fix it.

since u in the uk, would be great if you and your team can attend civicon and the sprints either before and after civicon

Hey Lobo,

I'm not able to write php - but Erawat will be at the codesprint on Tuesday (possibly Monday also) and perhaps he can pick up on this with you guys then? I wont be free until Tuesday afternoon at the earliest but I'll do my best to make it down to help with some documentation.

There's also possibly an issue with the query for the most recent/upcoming case activity query (used in the Case Dashboard & in the contact summary/case) where two activities have taken place at the same "time". We appear to then show an activity pulled from the wrong case. Doesn't affect the data but can be very confusing for users.

(also whilst I remember an issue with online sign-up where the user email address exists twice in the Civi database (cases dB error when database attempts to link contacts - think this has been noted in Jira)

Ps - should show you the CiviBooking we have up and going now and see how we take it forward! - did you still want us to put a blog post up on this?

Best

J

I'll connect with erawat in london/bristol and we'll take a look and fix :)

would be great if erawat and you can attend all days in bristol. The sprints really push the platform forward in big steps :) We'd love to get erawat's help to push civimobile out into the big world :)

would be great to see civibooking? any chance you and/or erawat can do a quick lighting talk on this during civicon (its a 5 min show and tell)

For the case activity problem are you on civi 4.2? There was an update made (http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-10598) that could be causing it, but not sure.

thanks demerit we had seen this new query and we're going to test it - we'll look into whether it solves the activity selection problem too.

@ lobo - I had proposed a session on it at civicon and stimulate some discussion on how we take it forward - not sure if this has been agreed though -

hopefully see you (both?) next week,

Best
