disable automatic confirmation e-mail

We just upgraded to Civi 4.2.0. We are working on registration for a non-paying event, and we discovered that we no longer have the option to not send a confirmation e-mail for registrations that we enter manually. The confirmation is generated automatically without any opportunity to edit or disable it. We do not want to be forced into sending confirmation e-mails and previously were able to check a box to not send a confirmation. How can we get that box back?

Turned out to be a browser issue. Firefox 10 is not playing well with the upgrade.
