Post code form display and prompt
September 11, 2012, 03:22:53 am
New Civi user, trying to get to grips with making it comfortable for our UK-based users. Currently up against the Civi assumptions around post code. By default post code is rendered in two parts in Civi - the 'post code' and the 'post code suffix'. But the UK postal code is a single code in two parts.

The logical thing to do seemed to be to disable the 'post code suffix' entry in the 'Settings - Address' section of the configuration menu. But even when you do that, the 'prompt' displayed on screen is 'post code suffix' not 'post code'. In fact, even 'Word Replacement' doesn't seem to help in getting rid of the 'post code suffix' prompt.

Anyone else noticed / bothered by this? Anyone got a solution?

TIA

Nick

That doesn't seem right to me.  I am a UK user and have been able to switch off post code suffix easily in the past - first question - are you able to reproduce that on the demo site?

Hi Michael,

Yes, the same behaviour is evident on the 4.2 demo site. The prompt for entering a post code, whether one or two entry boxes are available is "post code suffix". This is different from the 4.1 demo site (on drupal 6) where the prompt offered is "Zip / postal code".

I've attached screencaps of the 'add contact' page in the two demo systems, so you can see the difference.

Is it possible that this is a change introduced in error in 4.2?
