Getting rid of Sample Events

Hi,
New civicrm user so bear with me - I've been searching the forum but can't find a similar problem.
I installed with the sample data so I have reference points for setting up and have adding in my own contacts to start with.
I now want to get rid of the sample events to start setting up my own (and the contributions linked to them are going to effect my own totals) but if I try to delete an event it says I can't because there are participants, but when I try to find participants to delete those - it says it can't find any....
Can anyone suggest fix?

can you try and find the test participants. Also check and see if choosing all participant status and/or roles makes a difference

You could also search for all contacts and delete them all--if they're all from the sample data....

Thanks for the replies.

I was having trouble getting rid of the participants and eventually discovered they had other contributions attached to them - so worked through those and was able to then clear off the events and associated income from them.
