Customising CiviEvent to business requirements
September 17, 2012, 07:22:15 am
Took a step back from development for a while to use CiviCRM. During this time I have seen some improvements I/we could make to our Event Management process.
  • We organise and setup an event in CiviEvent
  • We compose a CiviMail inviting a group or several groups of individuals to the event and send
  • After registrations are complete we print a customised participant listing containing Name, Job Title and Employer
  • We perform an advanced search for participants for the event and process the Name Badges
  • On the event day we layout Name Badges with the participant listing and process participants as they arrive
  • After event, we update CiviCRM with Attended/Cancelled/No-show etc.
(goes without saying ::))

We are currently on 4.1.1 and planning to upgrade to 4.2 with Drupal 7.

In order to same some time in the planning of events I have customised a participant listing containing the Display Name, Employer and Job Title of the participants. I would like to customise this further to include an option to print name badges directly avoiding the need for performing advanced search. Is this possible? If so, any pointers?

Given that some events can have 100+ participants, our process in laying-out the name badges is very time consuming. Locating name badges is also frustrating when we are busy. Having already customised our name badges significantly I attempted to somehow add a sequential number (not participantID) to each name badge that would facilitate easy locating of name badges. Brick Wall! :( There are ways of course to make this happen, however I didn't want to have to change a large number of files. Is this (easily) possible?

Combining the two improvements above, if it was possible to add a 'create name badges' function to a participant listing, would it be possible to add a column (Badge Number) to the listing that could/would be printed on the name badges?
