Import Membership - Failing due to Invalid Membership Type
September 21, 2012, 05:58:24 pm
Hi,

First swing at CiviCRM (but experienced with Joomla, etc.) - anyways I did an Import Contact (went smooth) - I had an External Identifier attached to each record.
Then when i went to Import Memberships, I am getting pass validation, but then I get failure when trying to import saying that I have an Invalid Membership Type for all my records.

My membership types are - annual, honorary, life  (all lowercase)

And I have this very same thing in the CSV file (see attached)
When I put the ID instead of String (I get flagged during validation)

I saw a similar posts to this dated in 2011 - but I thought that it was resolved based on the thread.

Not sure if this is a bug or not.

There are a couple on import bugs in 4.2.1 being patched for 4.2.2 - so if you can afford to wait a week or so & try again that might be a good option

Thanks Eileen for confirming.  I definitely can wait a couple of weeks for the upcoming patch. Just wanted to make sure that I wasn't doing anything wrong.

Thanks
Corey

Hi,

I just upgraded to 4.2.2 to see if this issue was resolved.  I am still getting this message.  I wanted to confirm if it's still a bug or was the patch provided in this version.

Thanks
Corey

Hi,

I am now upgraded to 4.2.4 and I wanted to know if people are getting this issue in Joomla while importing memberships.

I have a csv file that looks like this (snippet)

user_id,type,status,date_joined_club,member_since,ghl,renewal
2362,annual,Current,11/28/2007,11/28/2007,0,5/31/2012
2469,annual,Current,3/9/2005,3/9/2005,0,5/31/2012
2463,honorary,Current,9/1/1974,9/1/1974,0,5/31/2012
2344,annual,Current,10/11/2006,10/11/2006,0,5/31/2012

I map the following:

user_id -> External ID
type -> Membership Type
status -> Membership Status
date_joined -> Member Start
member_since -> Member Since
renewal -> Member Expiration

Everytime I import - the Import Errors.csv file says - Invalid Membership Type

When I go to Admin -> CiviMember -> Membership Types

My types are "in all lowercase"

annual
honorary
life

So I am not understanding why the memberships won't import.

Please if someone can assist that would be great.

can't recall this issue but have you tried importing the Membership Type ID rather than the name? you can spot this in the url if you click on edit for any membership type

Hi,

Just wanted to thank you - it was the member type needed to be as ID.

Thanks
Corey
