How do you register multiple participants as administrator?
September 26, 2012, 08:08:39 am
Hi,  we recently launched a client on CiviCRM that is holding a national conference.  Front end registration is closed, but they take last minute registrations by phone for a period after online registration closes.  They often get groups of 2-4 people who register together with one payer.  The process credit card event registration button on the contact doesn't appear to allow registration of multiple participants.  In addition, it doesn't allow you to change the price to cover the other participants.  In contrast, the Register Event Participants under the Events menu allows you to record an arbitrary payment, but doesn't allow you to process the credit card.

Are we just missing how to do this?
Does someone have a work around they have used?
Are there plans to make this functionality more consistent across front and backend and between the contact form and event registration?
If not, could the administrators comment on the feasibility of a developer adding mutli-participant registration to the backend?

i think an easy workaround might be to impersonate the user(s) and register them via the frontend using the multiple-registration feature. No reason why a backend admin cannot use the front end :)

there has been discussion in the past about the differing functionality between the backend and frontend, but no one has addressed it and/or submitted code that would fix whats currently there

We have recently used CiviEvent to register participants in a national convention with about 20 different events and 800 participants. We used the front end as Lobo suggests, because we wanted to register multiple participants with one payer. The only problem with this approach is when the registrant uses a payment method other than a credit card. Our workaround was to enable the 'pay later' option, but that makes all the registrations that use checks or cash a two step process (one step to register; one to pay).

We would certainly be interested in having the same functionality in the back end as is in the front end. We would also like to be able to edit the primary participant's registration, the same way the additional participants' registration can be edited.
