When I upload CiviCRM as a module in Drupal, nothing happens...
September 27, 2012, 12:22:27 pm
What is going wrong when I'm uploading the tar? It appears as if it's uploading but then it just goes back to the same screen when done and nothing is in the FTP. I feel like I'm too much of a noob to install this manually unless there are precise step by step instructions. Can someone please help?

You are uploading via FTP? What FTP client (program) do you use?

Sorry I must not have made it clear. I followed the guide exactly already:
Quote
As administrator in Drupal, go to Modules, click on Install New Module, and it will ask you to fill in the URL of the module. It will then fetch it and install it for you. You will need to enable the Update Manager module in the drupal modules page to see the Install New Module link.
The current link is (removed). You will need to replace 4.2.x with the current minor version number. You may need to remove '/download' for the automated installer to work.
Hit the Install Button.
Do NOT proceed to "activate" the module - that will happen automatically in step 5.

This did not work as nothing was uploaded. I did not do anything in the FTP other than see if the files even uploaded which they didn't.

There are two ways to get the CiviCRM files into your install. One is the "automated" way you are trying and the other is manual. For many servers, the automated method fails b/c the archive of the files is very large. You therefore must do it manually.

Download the archive from sourceforge to your PC and then use FTP to upload it and then use your Control Panel's File Manager to unpack the archive.

Then proceed with the next step of the install procedure.

Hello Yaz,

This is Taken from a txt file that we created when we intalled our localhost Drupal 7.10/CiviCRM 4.08 installation. I Don't think that enough has changed for there to be any issues with using these instructions with 4.2.x . Should you have any problems, let me know what they were, so I can update our document.

Installing CiviCRM on Drupal

Published 9/26/2012
Products and versions used:
  Drupal 7.10  (http://drupal.org/project/drupal)
CiviCRM 4.0.8 (http://sourceforge.net/projects/civicrm/files/)

1. Once you have properly configured your LAMP stack on your hosting service and before installing Drupal go to phpMyAdmin See Drupal documentation if you do not know how to do this.
2. Click on the Database tab and create a new database. You can call it what ever you’d like. Just remember to make a note of it. It is very Important to running CiviCRM
3. Install Drupal
   a. Select the installation profile  that fits your needs. I selected “Standard.”
   b. Click “Save and Continue”
   c. Choose a language and click “Save and Continue” . In the Standard profile, only English was available.
   d. Select MySQL as the database type.
   e. Enter the CiviCRM database name that you created before.
      The username should be "root"
      The password should be blank
   f. Once you have filled in all the fields, click “Save and Continue”
This will bring you to an installation page. Just wait for it to finish the installation process and it should bring you to a configure site page. On the configuration page, give your site the name you will be using for your CiviCRM site. Enter the password for the web admistration for your CiviCRM site.
   g. Next we need to set up a username, Email address, and password for our Administrator account. They can be what ever you would like. Then Set your default country, and default time zone.
   h. Update Notification Settings, set them as you want them. I selected both.
   i. Click save and continue.

Now you should be on the Getting Started page. I would log out and log back in just to make sure everything is working.
4. Install CiviCRMa:  - Step 1
   a. Go to http://civicrm.org/
   b. On the download page scroll down until you see a link that reads "Download CiviCRM from SourceForge", Click on this link.
   c. download the latest version of CiviCRM. Get Drupal.tar.gz filetype.
   d. Extract the gz filetype
   e. Extract the CiviCRm v.x.xx.Drupal .tarfile to the Drupal/sites/All/Modules folder on your website.
   f. Rename this folder to CiviCRM (i.e. delete any version numbers and Drupal from the CiviCRM module folder name)
   g. Bring up your browser and navigate to www.yourwebdomain.com/ Drupal/sites/all/modules/CiviCRM/install/index.php
5. Install CiviCRM – Step 2
   a. When you are  in the /CiviCRM/install/index.php  location, (you will get red bar error messages don't worry the following steps will correct those)
   b. Now on this Installer page you need to fill out the information based off the information that we used to create the database earlier.
      MySQL server:
      MySQL username: root
MySQL password: empty unless you set one up earlier.
      MySQL database: yourCiviCRMdatabaseName
         Drupal Database
      MySQL server:
      MySQL username: root
MySQL password: empty unless you created one
      MySQL database: yourCiviCRMwebsiteName
Make sure you set the language and check the "load sample data" box (if desired)
   c. Click the Check Requirement box. Now everything should be green and at the top of the page you should get a "Ready to Install" box.
   d. Now there will be a "Check Requirements and Install CiviCRM" button. Click it.
   e. If everything installed with out any issues you will receive a "CiviCRM has been successfully installed" page. You can now edit information and view the links on the page.
6. Accessing CiviCRM
There are two ways to access your CiviCRM website:
   a. Go to Drupal and select yourCiviCRMwebsite
   b. Navigate directly to yourCiviCRMwebsite in the address bar of your browser.

I hope this helps, Please let me know.

Cheers!
Jason
