implementation of auto-renew memberships in contributed payment processor plugin
October 05, 2012, 06:15:41 am
I'm looking at making use of the auto-renewing membership feature, using D6/CivICRM4.1.6, with my contributed payment processor for IATS.

In the IATS plugin, I have an implementation of recurring contributions, but it's a one-way kind of thing - i.e. the plugin just sends a single request to IATS with the instructions for all the recurring contributions, once, and there is no communication from either side over the course of the recurring contributions (yes, so they don't get recorded in CiviCRM, and there's no notification in case of failure).

Is this going to work (at all?) for auto-renewing memberships? Or what kind of callbacks are required for this functionality to work? Is there up-to-date developer documentation for the contributed payment processors that I'm missing?

I guess I can just try it and cross my fingers, but it'd be nice to be on firmer ground.

pretty sure all the recurring contribution stuff requires the payment processor to call back whenever the next payment is completed by the PP

Might want to chat with samuel @ koumbit. He added some stuff to the moneris plugin (i think) which emulates this on a periodic basis

I dont think there is developer documentation for this as yet, but if u'd like to pursue it, can u please ping deepak on irc and work with him to write developer docs for this

thanx

Looking for an update about adixon's success in setting up recurring contributions with IATS. I see it hasn't been updated in the documentation (http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC42/IATS+Configuration) --- we (the Progressive Technology Project) would be happy to contribute to the docs if we can get some instructions/pointed to code that will help us set up a client to receive recurring contribs with IATS. Thanks!
