Opening port 993 in firewall fixed by bounce email processing problems
October 05, 2012, 03:43:59 pm
I thought I'd post this just in case someone else has the same issue. I had setup CiviMail to process bounced emails (I'm using Drupal 7.15 and CiviCRM 4.2.2) and under "System Settings" > "Scheduled Jobs" > "View Job Log" for "Fetch Bounces" it was showing the following error.

Parameters parsed (and passed to API method):
a:1:{s:7:"version";i:3;}

Full message:
Finished execution of Fetch Bounces with result: Failure, Error message: A fatal error was triggered

Finally I was able to solve the issue by opening port 993. The bounce email account is through Google Apps and I'm using IMAP. If you use POP I think the port is 995.

Thank you.  I've been dealing with these exact symptoms.  Unfortunately for me, my ISP does not like to open port numbers lower than 1024, so I may be SOL.

How were you able to diagnose this problem? I have not been able to find any meaningful messages.
