Custom Field Visibility
March 06, 2008, 07:49:49 am
I'm using Drupal 5.7 with CiviCRM 1.9. One problem I've had is remembering to set custom fields as visible for anonymous users. In Drupal, those are currently controlled with the setting "access all custom data" in Access Control. It would be helpful if that item were broken into two items:
- access all custom data
- enter custom data

Right now, it is confusing because I am lead to believe that checking "access all custom data" for anonymous users will give anonymous users access to other users' custom data. However, if I don't check that box for anonymous users, then they won't be able to fill in any of the custom fields I have set up.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Julia

By "enter custom data" i assume u mean: "edit/view your custom data"

should we change it to: access custom data (i.e. drop the 'all' which seems to give people the impression that anyone with that permission can see anyone's custom data). This seems more in line with the other wording (which needs to be revised and made a bit less techy/drupally)

I suspect adding a new word "enter" would confuse users also, since it a bit vague/ambiguous (to me)

Yes, enter/view your custom data makes a lot more sense. After thinking about it more, I agree with you that "enter" could be misleading.
