Removing status "remove" of a contact in a group
October 09, 2012, 07:23:22 pm
So I went to Contacts > Manage groups > selected a group
How do you change from "Remove" to "Added" status in this list:
http://screencast.com/t/Nq95IO8e836

The contact was already added in the group so that is not a problem. It is only confusing for users to see that status. I could not find a documentation on this one. I did find about Pending status but not for the Removed status. Any suggestion?

If they show 'Removed' status then they are not currently in the group (unless you've discovered a bug of some sort). You can click on 'more' in that listing and select 'Add to Group' to put them back in (or do this from the contact's Groups tab).

Hi Dave,

That's actually the problem. We already tried adding and readding the contact in that group to no avail. The status is still removed. One thing I noticed is that when we remove a contact in a group, visit the Manage group, the contact is not listed. But if I add the contact again, visit the Manage group, then I see the contact in the list again.

Based on the user report though, the status remove only shows when the user unsubscribes to the mailing list. Merely removing them in contacts doesn't change the status to Remove. But after adding the contact again to the group, the contact still get the email.

Note that Manage Group > Contacts only shows contacts with status 'Added' by default. You can see the 'Removed' contacts by clicking on "Find Contacts in Group" pane to open the search criteria. Then check 'Removed' status.

That said, if you are re-adding the contact and they are still showing status 'Removed' - that is unexpected. You'll need to recreate this on the public demo (link above) and provide exact detailed steps.

I tried replicating this in the demo but it is using version 4, we are still using version 3.2. I'll just try to describe what we found out so far.

So, it looks like it only concerns to 1 group. We have the following groups:
- Chapter Board Members
- General Member

Every time the "Chapter Board Members" is removed from a contact and then I go to Contacts > Manage groups > view General Member contacts, the status of the contact is Removed (as shown in my first post).  If I view the contact in another group, say "Internal Content Editor", the status in the listing is Added.

This doesn't happen to other groups. Only to the above groups mentioned. I cannot find any relationship between Chapter Board Members and General Member. They are not a parent or a child.

Any clue to where I should look next? Maybe there is hidden relationship between the two?

Sorry, no clue :-(
If the Chapter Board Members group isn't too large, might be easiest to just delete the group (which will remove the civicrm_group_contact rows that link a contact to a group) and re-add it / put folks back into it.
