put the version number on the demo sites
October 10, 2012, 01:41:39 am
Hi there,

I think that having a version number on the demo sites, rather than the SVN revision number would make a difference and be v. helpful to the army of people who ask to 'replicate on demo'.

I am presuming that we have the revision number because we are checked out from SVN (and I am presuming is an easy way to keep demo sites up to date).  Is there any way we can infer a version number from SVN so that we could automate that, either for all SVN checkouts on just on the demo instances.  I'm thinking that we want to automate it since having an extra thing to remember when upgrading demos would be boring, and forgetting to do so would be confusing :)

the demo is mostly at the latest svn version (especially when we are doing a lot of patches)

so now it is between 4.2.2 and 4.2.3

we do not offer downloads of those versions and as such putting a version number on it is misleading, IMO

oh - I did not realise that!

I thought demo was always at a stable release.

I had been assuming that when we say to someone can you replicate on demo we are aslo saying 'an upgrade to the latest released version will fix your problem'.  But now I realise that it is a bit more subtle that that.  it is more like saying 'upgrading to the latest released version, or the version that is about to be released will fix your problem'
