While using version 4.0.3 I set up Word Replacements to change the word 'Contribution' to 'Payment'.  After upgrading to 4.2.0 it reverted to 'Contribution', even though the Word Replacements settings still shows the instructions for the change.

Although my company is a nonprofit, most of the money we accept is payment for services rather than contributions.  Most of our clients are public libraries, and since they have to go through a city department to make the payment, anything that looks like a donation is instantly vetoed.

Any suggestions as to how I can get rid of the word 'Contribution' using version 4.2.0?

I tested this on the demo site and it seems to work, with exception to any occurrances in a dropdown. I attached an example.

You'll have to change these from Administer-->CiviContribute-->Payment types. Edit the types that you need to, renaming them as necessary.

I investigated lost word replacements recently & it turns out if you change your language (e.g. from en_US to en_AU or en_UK) then and word replacement strings are over-written
