Can't Update Contact Information

This topic has been brought up before, but I found no answers.  I'm having a problem updating contact records and get this messages.

I"m using Drupal 5.7, beta 5 of Civicrm 2.0, PHP 5 and mySQL 5.

I was originally getting the error on a prior 2.0 beta version, so I did a clean reinstall of beta version 5, new code and new database and still get the same error.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Is there something I could've done wrong to make this happen or anything I can to do to track the error?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Is it happening on all types of contacts or just some. If some, any common parameters (sorry, obvious suggestions but ...) i think we hit of few of these when two people shared one email. while we could import (i think from memory) when we tried to change an address etc type detail it didn't like two people having same primary email address. If so, you may want to search forum for 'primary email' - i don't think we found a work around and ended up messing up the email address to make the change, and then rechanging the email address. Brain's dead. sorry if that doesn't really help.

I'm trying to find a pattern, but there doesn't seem to by any.   Even so, doesn't seem like this should be this much work to figure out.

I disabled all the add-on Drupal modules, still seemed to have the same problem, yet then at times it will let me make a change, but only on certain fields.  These all seems to be on contacts that I either imported from Drupal, or tried to create.  Changes on the test data seems to work fine.

Is there anything I need to know about permission on directories or intial setup data?  It just seems that if it's spitting out an error someone should be able to go to a place in the code and know where it's happening.  I know this is open source, but isn't there any kind of error handling process?

Do you have drupal caching turned on? if so, can you check and turn it off? We do have code to turn this off for civicrm pages, but just want to check on that

it does help everyone involved if you are a bit nicer with your posts. sarcasm does not really motivate folks to answer posts

I apologize for the way I came across.  I guess I was just really frustrated and tired from working with it all day and having problems.  I'm very sorry.

In answer to your question I did not have cache turned on, but I needed to get other parts of my drupal site up and running, so I've uninstalled civicrm, but would like to try a fresh install with either another drupal install or maybe alone.  Any suggestions on the best approach to ensure success?

I would first try it on a clean install and have civicrm be the only module. get it working and then introduce other modules
