Deleting a CiviMember contact in a WordPress-based install
October 11, 2012, 06:50:33 pm
Hi all,

The CiviCRM docs state:

"Their contact record in CiviCRM is linked to their user record in the CMS (Drupal, Joomla!, or WordPress)."

However, it's not clear whether "linked" means a 'soft link', such that deleting the CiviMember contact only deletes a reference to the WordPress user record; or a 'hard link', such that deleting the CiviMember contact deletes the WordPress user record itself. We definitely don't want to do the latter, so we'd like some clarification on this before we start deleting CiviCRM contacts. :-)

Thanks in ancticipation,

Alexis.

Guessing it would be 'soft' - certainly with Drupal if you delete a civi record that has a drupal user account created - just the civi record and the record in the uf_match table get deleted

fire up a test user/contact and delete ;-)

Good suggestion - thanks! Created a test contact, and found that "Delete contact" doesn't remove the WordPress user. Haven't tried it with "Permanently delete contact", however.
