Upgrading form 3.4.8 to 4.1.6 (Drupal 6)
October 23, 2012, 07:51:43 am
Hello All,

I am trying to upgrade the CiviCRM version 3.4.8 to 4.1.6 and getting error as per below. The weird part about this issue is there is no Error Detail being displayed (not the accordion issue but its just not there). Therefore I cannot pin point where the error is occurred.  I did some hit and trail by following http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC40/Ensuring+Schema+Integrity+on+Upgrades assuming it might be due to the schema integrity but still the error persists. I am not sure if there is any setting which is causing the Error Details not to be displayed.

HELP IS REALLY APPRECIATED. I HAVE TRIED UPGRADING IT SEVERAL TIMES ALREADY......

Sorry. A non-recoverable error has occurred.

Hard to say. Can you try with 4.2.4 instead?

Hershel - I wasn't sure about the stability of 4.2.x that's why I tried two version of 4.1.x , 4.1.6 and then 4.1.3 because I had already done a successful 3.4.x  upgrade to 4.1.3. But I can try the 4.2.4 upgrade and update you on how it goes though I am a bit skeptical about it. :)

Use 4.2.2 or wait for 4.2.5. Do not upgrade with 4.2.4. See http://civicrm.org/blogs/dave-greenberg/do-not-use-v42x-upgrades-possible-data-loss

Thank you Hershel though I have some issue with upgrading CiviCRM to 4.2.x since PHP 5.3 is required and currently I will not be able to upgrade the PHP version. But if you have any insight on why the Errror detail is not being displayed, it would make my day.

I don't know why you don't see an error, but can you tell us how you are doing the schema integrity fix in detail so we can check that you are doing that part correctly?

Hershel,

I followed the same steps as in http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC40/Ensuring+Schema+Integrity+on+Upgrades. The upgrade form 3.4.6 ti 3.4.8 went fine. The issue is with 4.x upgrade.

It's hard to say without a clearer error message. :(

You still get the same error?

Yes - Tried it several times already but same error with no error detail. I tried switching on the DAO Debug (CIVICRM_DAO_DEBUG) but still there is not good explanation of where it fails. I think at this point I consider doing a manual upgrade - suggestion would really be appreciated. Also I have included my settings file just to make sure nothing in the setting file might be causing the issue.

Code: [Select]
define( 'CIVICRM_UF'               , 'Drupal'        );
define( 'CIVICRM_UF_DSN'           , 'mysql://xxx:xxxx@localhost/xxxxx?new_link=true' );

                $civicrm_root . DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR . 'packages' . PATH_SEPARATOR .
                get_include_path( );
set_include_path( $include_path );

if ( function_exists( 'variable_get' ) && variable_get('clean_url', '0') != '0' ) {
    define( 'CIVICRM_CLEANURL', 1 );
} else {
    define( 'CIVICRM_CLEANURL', 0 );
}

CIVICRM_UF should be Drupal6

Don't know if that's the cause of the error, but just noting it.

I am also test upgrading from 3.4.8 to 4.1.6 and get the same error message "Upgrade CiviCRM to Version 4.1.6" and "Array" on the next line. I changed the "define( 'CIVICRM_UF'" in the settings file to "Drupal6" instead of "Drupal" and it seemed to fix the issue.

Yes, this is noted in a big red box on http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC41/Upgrade+Drupal+Sites+to+4.1+-+Drupal+6 as a necessary step.
