Campaign Management

I’d like to see a more robust solution to manage mailing campaigns, both snail mail and email.  The reason for this suggestion is to decrease mailing costs, provide greater user efficiency, and target highest valued donor.

Improve campaign definition screens to track the following:
- Direct Mail/Email/Both
- Supply timing & costing information for ROI analysis
- A/B split tests
- Control group

Aggregate mailings by mailing classes for better reporting and analysis
- Newsletter
- Appeal
- Press Release
- etc.

Provide detailed summary screen for each mailing panel (group/list) enabling the user to easily add/edit selections.  Summary selections would show:
- Total count of campaign
- Selection choices by group which can be easily manipulated
- Total count by group

Either create a unique query tool that fits right into the work flow of civimail or improve query capabilities on the “advance search” tool.  At a minimum it currently needs to include:
- Frequency of payment transaction
- Option to select multiple states, carrier routes
- Email responses:  Click-throughs, opened email

This is an area where there's has been some discussion - but not a lot of progress. One road-block is that there seem to be very different ideas among our users about the basic definitions as well as requirements. Some threads of conversations are here:

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/Campaigns

I think the custom search framework added in 2.0 may give folks the opportunity to craft searches which aggregate information already being collected about mailings and other "campaign" actions. However, t this point we don't have anything more concrete on the short/medium term road-map.

If your organization is interested in sponsoring a point release focused on campaign support - we'd be interested in talking about that. Otherwise, perhaps the best approach is to identify a few smaller key improvements that could be made within the existing feature-set.

For example, adding a "Mailing Type" column to the schema / interface could then allow custom searches / reports "aggregate by mailing class"...

Thanks for the reply, Dave.

I would like very much to see our organization sponsor a project like this.  We are in the early stages of getting our feet underneath us as an marketing & fundraising agency.  Give me 3 -  6 months and I will come back to you with more details.  Keep up the good work.
