Duplicate Contributions entry in Database

Hi
We have been using CIVICRM for about 10 months now and recently discovered that Civi has been arbitrarily recording duplicate contributions entries - the same amount for the same campaign for the same contact  at the same time. The issue seemed to have happened infrequently in the past but in the last month there has been an increase (almost 4 duplicates in a week) We are now able to identify it at the moment it happens. This had greatly reduced our confidence in the product. The contribution id is different and there is no error during the commit.
Has anyone ever had a similar issue and is there a fix?

Shouldn't happen. You should upgrade to the latest stable version and see if that solves it.

ibhola, definitely first upgrade to see if that fixes it.

If not, then what payment processor do you use?

Thanks for the suggessions
I will try the upgrade and report back. With respect to payment processor - none used. Currently CIVICRM is used only for recording of donations not for donation processing
