CiviPhone/CiviSMS
November 03, 2012, 06:13:12 am
I've been playing around with CiviSMS with an eye to developing CiviPhone for automated calling. Once I configured Twilio as a provider for CiviSMS, I realized just how easy the next step was to configure CiviSMS to also make phone calls.

I just set up another provider, TwilioPhone, with very slightly different API parameters, and passed the text message field into the API as text to voice.

So I started to think that instead of a whole new module, perhaps we should just be combining this into a single module. I am assuming that other SMS/Voice API's are pretty similar. DruaplVoIP is an example of combining SMS into a single module.

Thoughts?

I think this also depends on what you want to use the Phone/VoIP interface for.

Something like Click2Call and filling out surveys while on the phone is very different than text to voice

Might want to do some research into some of the above systems and come up with a feature set etc that u'd like to explore and build

You mean to do robotcalls? How was the result?

Worked great. No different from doing it with a standalone PHP file using the API.

Needs some work to be able to store the reponse in civicrm though.

I work for a non-profit that is actively engaging in call-center scale fundraising. I would like to bring CiviCRM to the table as a solution for many of the organizational needs, and phone solicitation (e.g. VoIP integration) would be a very beneficial feature.

Is there a wiki page where we can compile a feature list?

Use Case
A phone center caller initiates a phone call to a constituent. The constituent answers. The caller asks if the constituent's contact information is correct and if they may be interested in completing a short survey. The caller also asks if the constituent would like to donate to an ongoing fundraising campaign.

User Interface
The call center employee clicks a button to call the next constituent in the call center queue. The phone call is connected and the employee is presented with the constituent profile. Once the constituent answers, the caller has an inline editable screen with constituent details, as well as buttons to initiate a survey and/or accept a contribution.

Hey Brylie,

I'm pretty sure that Josue and co. at PTP have integrated some CiviContribute functionality into CiviSurvey which means a fair amount of the UI needs - might be that you'd just need to add the VOIP bit.

You might want to have a look and see if there are any wiki pages for the work that PTP did, and if not, you can always create one :)
