Mailing labels no longer in alphabetical order
November 05, 2012, 07:57:08 am
Previously, when I printed off mailing labels from search results the mailing labels appeared in the same (alphabetical) order as the search results, which is useful for ordering mailings by batch.  :)

Now, with version 4.2.3 and now also that I've upgraded to 4.2.6, the mailing label PDF generated does not seem to reflect the order of contacts generated in the search results. Not sure what the new order is, but it might be by CiviCRM ID.

Anyone else having this problem and any ideas on how to get back to alphabetical ordering? ???

Yes, if you do a search for all contacts on the demo server, you get around 100 contacts, which are then listed in alphabetical order (by surname). If you then Select All Records and create Mailing Labels, it makes a pdf with them all in an apparently random order.  :o

I did the same test on http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org and it still presents the contacts in a non-alphabetical order. The first name is correct, but then it goes funny.  :-\

If you try it on one of the demo sites you will find out whether or not it has been fixed.
