[SOLVED] How to show menu of recent activities in left-most column...
November 05, 2012, 08:10:32 am
In an older version of CiviCRM, I saw a menu at the left of recent activities, viewed records, etc. It was useful. For the life of me, I can't seem to find the way to turn this menu on. Could someone give me some help on this? Thanks in advance.

I'm using CiviCRM 4.1.1

The pellet with the poison is in the chalice from the palace. The vessel with the pestle has the brew that is true.

Hi Tim,

Could you say what CMS you're using?  You may also want to put it in your profile so it shows up to the left of any messages you post.

Assuming Drupal (since that's what I can answer) - that information is in a block.  So in your Drupal menu, go to Structure menu -> Blocks (may be different on Drupal 6, I'm looking at D7).  Find the block called "CiviCRM Recent Items" and select an appropriate region to put it in (e.g. left sidebar, if your theme has one).

If it's still not there, click "Configure" and see if "Show block on Specific Pages" is correct.  On certain Civi 4.1 versions, there was a bug, and you'll see a "\r\n" which should actually be a line break.  If you see that, delete it and press "Enter" instead to break that line in two.

That was it - EXACTLY. I removed the \n characters and entered a line break. Now I have the RECENT ITEMS block on the left. Thank you.
Yes, I'm using D7. I'll follow your advice in the future.

Tim - so glad that worked!  Note that you may have lost other blocks (like "Create New Individual") - you can go into the same place, find those other blocks, and apply the same fix if you like.
