issues with php5.4 and upgrade
November 06, 2012, 02:06:08 am
Hey folks,

I've run an upgrade from *** to 4.2.6.

It works fine on php 5.3 running on nginx on ubuntu 12.04 but does keeps on hanging on php 5.4 on ubuntu 12.10 (both using nginx).

A few things that that made me think...

not sure about your php 5.4 support status as yet, but that seems like something to look out for.

when upgrading on 12.10, if i hit refresh on the upgrade page, it did eventually get to the end and read a report all was well, but I am not sure how I know that I can trust this (i feel like some error messages are liable to get lost in the ether).

one of the times that i tested this, i am sure that i saw a refresh icon on the page, which when pressed allowed the upgrader to continue.  Hitting this multiple times seemed to trigger the next step  of the upgrade process but I had the distinct feeling that i was limping through it (similar to above) and so was not confident that I had successfully upgraded.

Re: issues with php5.4 and upgrade

i would say that for 4.2 and prior we do not support PHP 5.4. Seems like there are quite a few known and unknown issues with Civi and PHP 5.4

would be great if folks using php 5.4 run the testing suite and ensure that it all passes. that way we at least have a certain amount of confidence with civi + 5.4
