4.2.4 to 4.2.6 hangs on DB upgrade in select browsers

In both Firefox 17 and Chrome 22, after clicking "upgrade now" and proceeding to the CiviCRM Upgrade Tasks page, nothing happens; the retry and skip buttons have no effect. In Safari 6.0.2 the upgrade worked. This might have been caused by extensions used by the first two browsers. This problem hadn't occurred during DB upgrades of previous versions.

Same problem using firefox 14 and GNOME browser on linux
