contact id

Hi,

First post here & probably not the last! I attended the CiviCRM workshop & convention in SF last March - and now that our program season is over we're getting underway on implementation.

I'd like to know if there is an easy way to bring the contact id that civicrm assigns to each individual into view without having to view the entire contact record.

for example, on the 'find contacts' screen, is there a way to add it to the notecard that pops up when I put my cursor over the individual icon? or is there a way to add that field to the summary contact information to the right of the icon.

thanks - good to be here (even if I'm currently in overwhelm phase!

Hi there!

In theory this should be possible by creating a profile:
* Check off "Search Views" under "Settings"
* When creating fields, add any fields you want to appear on search result pages, including "Internal Contact ID"
* Under Administer menu -> Customize Data and Screens -> Search Preferences, set "Default Contact Search Profile" to your new search profile.

That said...while in theory it works, in practice I couldn't get it to show!  That said, I often can't get search views to work correctly, and I suspect I'm doing something wrong.  Perhaps someone else can build on this solution!

Hello Minor Lile and JonGold,

JonGold's solution works as long as the field's visibility is set to public. Go to Administer menu -> Customize Data and Screens -> Profiles, find the profile you added Internal ID to, view the profile's fields, Edit Internal ID, and set Visibility to public pages.

Just make sure that you have any other fields that you want to see on your search results in the profile, and that the visibility of these fields is also set to Public.

Cheers!
Jason
