New User Group for Catalan community
November 08, 2012, 03:38:28 am
Hi, we want to create a new User Group for the Catalan-spoken community. Which steps do we need to follow to do this?

We also think it might be a good idea to have a separate CiviCRM catalan blog / website with content, links to other local user groups (like Drupal.CAT), translated information, we can show forum entries from the user group in the civicrm.cat website.

Our first approach is that civicrm.org/usergroups and civicrm.cat can be complementary initiatives to share information, redirect traffic, etc.

Any experience or suggestion with local user groups / local civicrm sites will be very welcome

Thanks

Alejandro

Hey there,

i would suggest that you talk about what you are planning to do here on civicrm.org - get people's opinion - and then crack on and implement it (like u are doing :) )

this sounds like a sensible approach to me. have you looked at ubuntu locos?  i think they set a good example.

you could think about doing do on civicrm.org.

+ advantages of doing it on civicrm.org
* have all the other benefits of being on civicrm.org (sharing usernames, access to other resources, etc.)
* you could build infrastructure for other language / location based communities at the same time, so it is easier to get others involved.

- disadvantages of doing it on civicrm.org
* more communication overhead (not nec. a bad thing though!)
* harder to customise it exactly how you want it, etc.

Any experience or suggestion with local user groups / local civicrm sites will be very welcome

here is a short list (i suspect very incomplete) of the websites that exist at the moment

civicrm.nl exists and is afaik fairly well mantained by erik and erik.

civicrm.co.uk just redirects to civicrm.org (registered by me before anyone else could do so and set it up to point to their own site!)

civicrm.eu also exists but it is quite dormant.

http://www.civicrm.ca/ has a couple of links to the civicrm community site

civicrm.fr does not seem to exist though it is registered to someone.

http://civicrm.de/

there are also a lot of groups here: you should also look at http://civicrm.org/groups

and local forums as well, e.g. http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/board,73.0.html

plus if you look back in time on civicrm.org's event feed, you will see all the places in the world that have help civicrm event before :)

In the new year, I'm planning on spending some of my community manager time looking at the best bits of all of these local groups and putting useful infrastructure in place for them - would be great to have your input on that.
