CiviCRM sends but nothing arrives
November 10, 2012, 02:05:29 pm
Hi All --

It looks like folks have CiviSMS up and running, but I can't quite get it working.

The Clickatell account is set up and I've followed the threads here to get the proper prefixes on my mobile numbers so I don't get the 114 error.

So, now CiviCRM is satisfied and considers the SMS sent.  But, Clickatell has no record of sending it (nor does the recipient receive).  I'm still on the test developer account with 10 free credits, if that matters.

I set up the SMS Provider account in CiviCRM as per http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC42/Setting+up+a+SMS+Provider+for+CiviSMS
although I did not set up the MT callback because Clickatell did not like my URL.  Could this be the problem?

Would really appreciate any insights.  I'm sure I'm missing something simple but I can't figure out what it is.

Thanks, as ever, for your help,
-tiffani

In case anyone else is having this problem.

I went to Clickatell and discovered that my messages were reaching Clicktell but not passing through (thus, I saw now change in my credits) because of a "routing error."

The Clickatell forum revealed that the Developer's API which I signed up for does not cover the US.

To send to recipients in the US, I needed a Small Business API (I had to pay the $9.95 monthly fee for this -- but that may or may not be because I had already assigned my free test credits to the Developer's account that I had set up).

Used the new settings, still got a routing error.

That's because the Small Business Account is a two-way account (with a number and the ability to receive texts).  That requires a few more parameters:

api_id=[api number which is automatically assigned by Clickatell]
from=1714418XXX [11 digit phone number Clickatell gives you]
mo=1

This may be obvious but I thought I'd share as it took me a while to figure it out.

I can now send SMS to US recipients via CiviCRM -hooray!  Thanks for the module!

No problem, Dave -- happy to be able to make some sort of contribution to this great community.

Thanks for everything!
