Remove Duplicate Emails - Which Contact Record Gets Selected?

Hi guys,
I'm in an unfortunately position where I can't run this test at the moment.  I've been investigating the "Remove Duplicate Email" functionality.  All of the documentation says that when you tick this selection and then send your mailing that if the system finds two contact records with the same email address it will "select one of them".... but doesn't say which is selected.

Can anyone advise if it selects the record that was created first OR the record that was last updated when this scenario arises?

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Hi,

You shouldn't assume which one is going to be the duplicate, and it shouldn't matter, because either it's manually removed and you have the option to choose which one is removed or automatic, and it's because both are similar.

Otherwise, you can run the test on demo. but might change in a future version.

Appreciate that things may change in future versions.... but I just want confirmation of how it works right now.  I don't suppose you know?

I wouldn't want to go on record saying that the new one is the duplicate, because I think that based on the request (eg if optimised dedupe rules) it might be different. Got a vague souvenir of having had different results. Enough to say that the order is: "it depends".
