Update payment status fails

On my site the payments come in through Ubercart. There their status is 'Completed'. In Civicrm the status remains however 'Pending' and when I try to change this manually I get the message: Sorry but we are not able to provide this at the moment.

The status is not updated. Have looked around but cannot find a solution for this.

if you are on 4.2.1 might want to upgrade to 4.2.6 and see if that solves the issue

Just upgraded to 4.2.6 but no improvement.

I should mention however that the upgrade process went a bit unexpected.
I typed in the clean url upgrade line and immediately, without giving any return I was shown my Civicrm start page with 4.2.6 at the bottom. So I didnt even get to see an upgrade screen.
I repeated this and now gave a return, but no upgrade script was started and the same Civicrm startpage showed up (4.2.6).

But the payment status remains pending and cannot be changed manually

Also: I have no paymentprocessor configured in Civicrm, I receive my payments through Ubercart
