Strange behavior when removing groups

We've been experiencing some strange behavior when removing a contact from a group in the Admin area. I've attached a series of screenshots, to demonstrate the behavior. Essentially, a whole list of groups somehow appear on the Past Groups section, even though the person was never in those groups, saying it was Added by API. When you click the remove button, it puts that group and several others into the current groups. Then when those are deleted, they finally disappear. Then rinse and repeat. We're running Joomla 2.5 and CiviCRM 4.1.5.

Never saw such a thing and I don't know what it might be, but can you upgrade your CiviCRM and see if that helps?

So we are still experiencing this issue. I'm no longer on staff and unfortunately the staff members haven't been keeping me appraised, but it's still a problem with certain individuals. We've since upgraded several times and are running the latest version. I'm a little concerned that it may be linked to some errors with our data. I was the original system admin, and for a while whenever I edited a contact, a different user's name would display instead. I ended up deleting my admin profile and creating a new one, which resolved some of the errors but obviously not all. That problem seemed to be caused by confusion between the CiviCRM ID and Joomla user ID.

We do have the CiviCRM group synch add-on installed, which could also be part of the cause.

Is there anything I should be checking in the database to see if it could be the cause? I stumbled on this thread, which seems like it may have been a similar issue: http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,31212.0.html

You could try to run the Users to Contacts Synch tool, or as a last resort, empty the table that does that synch (I forget which offhand) and then run it to rebuild it entirely.

I've run the synch tool a few times and it doesn't seem to have resolved the problem, so emptying the table may be a good idea. I can test it on a backup and see what that does. Thanks!
