Can't sync Drupal users
November 18, 2012, 05:51:39 pm
When I try to synchronise my Drupal users to CiviCRM contacts, it just sits there for a minute then I get "Gateway Time-out: The gateway did not receive a timely response from the upstream server or application." I have about 2000 users, but I've seen nothing in the documentation that recent versions of CiviCRM can't handle that. But I may have missed something else, eg, I haven't seen anything in the installation guide  on what my Drupal user profiles have to look like or how the syncing matches user profile fields to the contact fields in CiviCRM (eg, do user profiles have to have the same fields as CiviCRM profiles?).

What did I miss? How do I debug this?

I can't tell you how to debug this - i can tell you that this synch has nothing to do with drupal Profile fields - it will simply be looking for contacts in civi with same email as thos in Drupal and adding a row for each in the uf_match table

in terms of civicrn 'handling' 2000 users - i doubt this is an issue with civi so much as perhaps some of the server set up. so to help others who may come along with more technical advice, you might want to add some info about your server/hosting

Ok, they're synced -- maybe it was just a transient problem or I had to wait for cron to run.

Now how do I get Drupal user info (Names + addresses) into CiviCRM?  Do I have to separately import that?

Do you mean Drupal Profile fields?
I would export/import but others would use a more direct approach I am sure

Yes.  I have all my member info in Drupal profile fields (name, address, etc).  I was hoping there's some documented way of taking that.

I think Peter's right: export/import.
