"Search by membership number" block
November 20, 2012, 04:37:30 pm
Hi,

I have created a profile with membership number.  How can I create a block to search by membership number?  Any suggestion?

Thanks,

R

You might want to add a bit more details about your use case, what you are trying to do, and how you have set this up, e.g. why you want to do this, who wants to be able to do this, etc.  If you provided more details it would cut down on the amount of questions and ifs in this answer, and make it easier for people to help you :)

By membership number do you mean CiviCRM's built in membership_id or another membership number that you have created?  If it is another membership number, is that membership number attached to the contact record or the membership record?

If it was a custom field, then you should be aible to use 'Find membership' to search for this as long as the field is searchable.  If you mean the built in CiviCRM ID, I don't think this is possible with 'Find membership'.

If you have created a profile, then that profile normally comes with a built in search which you could use (you just have to find the URL which will be of the form civicrm/profile?gid=N&reset=1 where N is the id of your profile).

However, I am 99% sure that search is not available on profiles that have fields from memberships and contacts, so if your membership number is attached to the contact, you'll be fine, but if your membership number is attached to the membership record that won't work.

I think that in general, we should do a better job of being able to search by IDs.

If you are using the membership id, you can always find it at this URL civicrm/membership/view?reset=1&id=N where N is the built in membership ID  Creating a block that went took an integer and directed you to civicrm/membership/view?reset=1&id=N where N is that integer is not too hard if you know how :)

Hello rshun,

As Michael said, we need a little more information to go off of. For what purpose do you need to search?

Depending on the information you are looking for, you can display your advanced search results as memberships. and perhaps recieve the information you are looking for. the bonus is, these results are exportable.

Hope this helps,

Cheers,
Jason.
