Event with a Membership?
November 24, 2012, 06:07:28 pm

I want to create an event in Civi with two price sets.  The first is for general attendance, and the second will include a Membership to the site.

I can see how to create price sets to include multiple prices for a single event, but I am not sure if there is any way to trigger or link the purchase of a membership to an event?  The problem is that once the participants have purchased the second option, they will want to complete the membership sign up form, however this form by default includes an additional credit card transaction.

Any idea's?   It would be great if someone could sign up for an event and afterwards be directed to the membership signup form.

This use case has come up in the past. Linking an event registration to an automatic membership

However there is no support for this within core or as an extension. Would definitely be good to knock this off as an extension initially and potentially add it to core in the future

If your org can do this development that would be great

Thanks.  I will probably look into building this functionality.

Is there a decent guide online on how to develop a Civi extension that will work with Drupal?  I am familiar with Drupal modules, but have never extended Civi before.

What if you simply had two different registrations for this event.  One where you got a discount price set based on membership status and the other for general admission?  I believe that core can offer that.  It would be a round about way but that might work.  Thus those who are members can register for the event using the alternate registration form with matching price set.  Maybe I am not thinking in the same direction as you so please ignore my comments if they don't have merit for your issue.
