Installing to a different database
November 24, 2012, 08:56:25 pm
In a Joomla installation of CiviCRM is it possible to tell  the installer to use a specific database other than the Joomla database, and even possibly on a different server?

For instance, presuming Joomla is running on a machine and using the local mysql server and a database, can I force CiviCRM to use a remote hostname and DB for its tables?

I'm trying to isolate the databases for security.  I'd like to host the CiviCRM records on a separate mysql instance.  The idea being that I'd like to complicate the process of getting to the civi database if some type of future Joomla exploit managed to dump a copy of every table in the joomla database.

You can do the below but u'll need to edit the file manually after the installation is complete

You'll also need to create the remote databases manually. The sql files for those are in sql/civicrm.mysql,civicrm_data.mysql
