Google Analytics - goal funnels, ecommerce transaction tracking
November 25, 2012, 09:30:59 am
I'm looking to set up more detailed Google Analytics tracking with our CiviCRM installation and since I'm sure this is a frequently-solved problem, I'm hoping I might draw on the wisdom of others.

1) I'd like to set up some goal funnels, both as they relate to membership signups as well as other contributions such as event registrations. If you've set up url-based goal funnels, what did *you* set up, and how? (Particular, which CiviCRM URLs did you use for your funnel(s)? Can I pull this off with just head matching, or do I have to use RegEx style matching.)

2) I'd also like to set up ecommerce transaction tracking, and noticed jcm55's code at http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,19039.msg79076.html; it was posted over a year ago... does it work with the most recent version of CiviCRM?

3) Are there any other suggestions you'd make regarding using Google Analytics with CiviCRM?

Very good questions -- but sometimes, the GA code would be generated in the template within the host CMS, and not in the actual template -- where you would know about the line items etc. We use a reusable chunk of code allowing all CMS components to push GA information, and a separate module to generate the relevant GA code in the template, at the right place.

Would it be more useful if there would be some standard support to generate GA details from inside Civi, and an integration API call to allow the CMS to pickup order details ?
