Setting "Primary" address from contribution forms
November 27, 2012, 03:02:12 pm
I have a contribution form that collects both a billing address and a normal address (using the Name and Address profile that comes pre-loaded with CiviCRM), and everything works swimmingly except for the fact that the "billing" address seems to get recorded first and thus becomes the primary. This is a a problem because the whole point of collecting the other address is to let the user provide a preferred mailing address when the billing address isn't it, and the primary address is the one that gets used for mailings, reports, etc.

Obviously I can look at my receipt e-mails, notice when the two addresses are different, and go set the primary manually, but is there a more elegant way to do this?

Edit - Also, this gets kinda strange if the Billing name is not the same as the name entered in the profile, because the name from the profile (which is used to create the contact) is then associated with a primary address (from the billing address fields) that might belong to somebody else...

I think updating the address fields (street, city, etc.) in the Name and Address profile so that they point to "Primary" location rather than "Home" might solve this for you.

I just had this same issue. I changed all of my fields in the profile to primary and it is still updating the billing address first. This was not an issue last year, but seems to be one this year.

have a look for this in JIRA - Robyn Perry logged it as an issue & I added a fix recently which I think Jamie QAd & committed into 4.3

(We are running it the patch on 4.2)
