Duplicate CiviEvents with Calendar module?
May 21, 2007, 07:31:05 am
Hi,

I am using Drupal 5.1 with the CiviCRM 1.7.9379 in conjunction with calendar so that I can view CiviEvents in Drupal.

However, sometimes I am getting duplicate events. I am just testing, so I'm using the generated data tables provided. So it's the Summer Solstice Festival event, which is June 17th from 12 - 5 PM. However, it shows up on the calendar for both June 17 and June 18. The ical feed file is correct, so I don't know if this is a bug in the calendar module....has anyone else experienced this? Have you had problems with this on the demo? I am using the latest version of everything (download and installed today!).

Thanks,
Emily

Hi Emily -
I just refreshed the iCal "cache" on our demo site and took a look at the Calendar for June. The sample "Summer Solstice" event is showing up on June 18 from 02:00 - 07:00. The event is actually set for June 17th from 12:00 - 17:00.

I suspect your "duplicate" may reflect the same problem with how event times are being handled by the Calendar module. It looks like there's some automatic timezone "translation" happening ???

I've posted a request for clarification on this to the iCal module developer here:
http://groups.drupal.org/node/2997

... but haven't gotten a reply as of yet. It would be great if someone can help us figure out whether this is either:
- a bug in the iCal data being passed by CiviEvent (i.e. some formatting issue)
- a configuration setting for Calendar module
- a bug in Calendar module

Ah -- I see that you were already well aware of this, Dave.

The interesting thing that I have noticed is that I was able to get some of the duplicates to go away, but it appears to be very random.I kept removing the iCal feed from the calendar ical insert area. Then I resubmitted the feed. After a couple of times doing this, some of the duplicates went away. While others did not.

I also edited the times in the CiviEvents and resubmitted those. But it continues to provide odd results. While some then refresh properly, others, like the Solstice event, are now showing up the following day (so June 18th instead of June 17).

It does, at least initially, appear to be some flakiness on the calendar side of things since the feed appears the same each time. I used to have some glitches doing stuff like this with the Events module, but removing configurable time zones always did the trick. Not the case this time. I have my timezone set to EST with no allowances for configuring otherwise. Event settings reflect this.

I'll keep track of the post you've done on groups.drupal.org. Thanks.

Dave,

Just found this online in the calendar issues...seems like it may be related. I'm afraid I have little to no experience dealing with patches or with understanding the structure for calendar or views, so you may know more about it than me. Let me know if you think this is related: http://drupal.org/node/135296

Emily - thx for the reference. Looks like there are several open issues related to time display. I'm hoping we get some more info / guidance from the module developer or someone familiar with the related code.
