SSL Issues "You need to set up a secure server before you can use the Force..."
December 04, 2012, 06:21:22 pm
I've got a WordPress 3.4.2 site with CiviCRM 4.2.6. When I try to Force Secure URLs (SSL), I get the error, "You need to set up a secure server before you can use the Force Secure URLs option."

My SSL certificate tests fine on my server outside of this installation. I even have a CiviCRM/Drupal installation in a directory and it works.

I've got:
  • CIVICRM_UF_BASEURL set to https://www.<mysite>.org/ (I've also tried it as http://)
  • CiviCRM Resource URL set to https://www.<mysite>.org/wp-content/plugins/civicrm/civicrm/

I tried this on the CiviCRM/WordPress demo site (https://wordpress.demo.civicrm.org/), and get the same error. (See attached screen shot).

I tried a new CiviCRM database and loaded the sample data: same result.

Also, my Apache access log says that the POST from the server (in response to my request to change the Force SSL setting) was a 302.

Any help with this will be hugely appreciated.

the last time we checked there were some issue with wordpress dealing with http and https with the same config and u needed to use some plugin

not sure if this has been rectified, but would be good if you can investigate and see how we could potentially address and solve this issue

thanx

Thanks, Lobo. I had originally tried the WordPress HTTPS plugin and I just tried CCS-HTTPS. No luck.

It's only the CiviCRM pages that won't load securely: I've got code in .htaccess that's trying to force all of the wp-admin pages (including CiviCRM) to HTTPS. It's like the CiviCRM pages are being forced back out of HTTPS as they load.

If anyone who has made this work on WordPress can jump in here, that would be swell. I'm happy to test stuff, but I'm no coder.

In the meantime, if there's way to make CiviCRM not check for a secure server, that might work as an interim hack.

i think the easiest fix for now might be to convert your civicrm install to using https all the time (i.e. all the urls are https). not sure if u also need to change your WP install to https

if you do find a solution, please report back so others can benefit. good luck

Thanks, again. I've got the whole site secure and that worked.

Well, except when I went to set up recurring donations. Just found out that new PayPal Pro accounts can't use the API for recurring billing. You must now use PayFlow. All accounts will be eventually migrated over, the PayPal folks tell me.

might want to ask them about recurring payments and subscriptions

instead of recurring billing. pretty sure that is supported by paypal pro and standard
