Just in terms of CiviCRM functionality, any advantage of Wordpress v Drupal, etc

If we're only concerned about CiviCRM functionality is there any advantage to using one of the CMS versus the other?

For example is it easier to make or search or layout custom fields?

Maybe features are more likely to be implemented first in one CMS?

Drupal gives options to use
- Webform: build complex forms to collect civi data including for multiple contacts on one form, relationships etc
- Views: build tables/displays of civi data with filters etc
- user synchronise: give Drupal Roles to civi contacts based on civi Membership, Groups

WOuld be useful to do a more comprehensive matrix of these in the wiki somewhere

Thanks.  Yes, that's helpful.

For the purposes I'm looking at, that points to using Drupal.  The organization I'm helping needs to switch from their ... ahem... spreadsheet  :o ...  to a CRM.  So I'm not looking so much for the CMS part, though I find the distribution of this as a plugin to various CMSs to be compelling.

Thanks!  Now I can setup a Drupal dev. environment and test 'er out.

Drupal is also the CMS to choose if you are looking to extend civicrm functionality since that is the CMS that most of the developers that extend civicrm use.  Great idea to do a comparison matrix of the different CMS.

So can you build a more simple form using Wordpress to collect civi data?

I assume not.

I don't mean to be too picky.  It would just be convenient for one of my other clients.

Thanks.

(presumably I could custom code something)

Yes, CiviCRM native forms (aka profiles) are available regardless of cms. They provide a simple webform to collect info about one contact and optionally log an activity and join a group (aka mailing list).

Drupal webforms provide advanced features like multiple contacts, relationships, cases, custom form layout, post-process logic, etc.
