Installing backup of CiviCRM on new install of Drupal 7
December 06, 2012, 07:18:47 am
I have a fresh install of Drupal 7, but installing it required me to back up and delete EVERYTHING from my old Drupal install, even the Sites directory.

I am now uploading my backed-up CiviCRM folder into the sites/all/modules folder of my new install.  I am pretty sure it was 4.2.4.

Once I get the files uploaded, what's next?  Will 4.2.4 run on Drupal 7, or should I just go ahead and upgrade to 4.2.6?  And I can't remember where the civicrm.settings.php file is that would contain the information pointing Civi to the databases, which still exist on the server.

Any help you can offer to keep me from making things worse or losing data would be greatly appreciated.

Okay, following up.

4.2.4 won't run on Drupal 7, so I installed 4.2.6.  I went through the install process, during which time I entered the database information for my previous CiviCRM install.  Everything checked out fine, and the installation proceeded.

I would have expected, then, for my previous events, contacts, etc., to have been recovered in that process.  Instead what appears to have happened is that perhaps the Civi install dropped all my old tables and created new ones, destroying my data in the process.

At this point, should I restore my old database and try an upgrade instead?

Of course 4.2.4 runs on Drupal 7. You must get the D7 version of the code base.

Anyhow a CiviCRM install will never drop any tables. It would appear you installed it into a different database, or perhaps you somehow emptied the DB yourself.

Yes, I would suggest you DELETE the database, then recreate it (to make sure it's totally empty) and then restore your 4.2.4 and then upgrade to 4.2.6.

I can do all that, but how do I get my data back?  I have a full site backup from yesterday; I assume the databases have been backed up as sql files.

And yes, you're right - I didn't realize there were two different versions of 4.2.4.

Thanks!

You must use your backup. That's what I meant when I wrote "restore your 4.2.4"--you restore your backed up database that has all your data.
