inputting cash collected for an event
December 07, 2012, 07:47:06 am
I am not able to figure out where to go in civiEvent to input how much cash was collected at an event. Is there a place to do this? I don't have individual information on each person who paid in cash, just a total amount collected.

thanks!

What purpose was the cash for, registration, donations, or something else?

I am not aware of any place to do this. Events are intended to "accept" money from participants individually. Perhaps you could add a site administrator as a "participant" and then list this as "his" payment.

Or perhaps create a dummy Contact called "Collected Payments" and then record the sum fee under his participation record. Then you could use that record for every event.

these were people who bought tickets to an event at the door. We of course have separate book keeping software, but it would be nice to be able to run a report at the end of the year and see what events were the most successful.

I would think Hershel has the right idea here. If it was me I would create a new individual contact record and call it something like "Door Ticket Sales" or something else.  Then for each event simply register them for X number of tickets/seats and then make a payment record at the same time (nice check box to record payment while registering) with cash as the tender and maybe a General Ledger receipt number so you can cross reference the transaction during reconciliation.

Does that sound like a good solution for you?
