Error installing on Wordpress

Installing on Linux and Installer indicates:

Quote
The user account used by your web-server needs to be granted write access to the following directory in order to configure the CiviCRM settings file:
//var/www/html/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/files

As you can see Wordpress is installed in a directory off the document root (html) directory.  I don't know if that is a factor here.

The civicrm folder in the plugins folder including all subfolders and files under the civicrm folder is writable and owned by apache so I am not sure what the issue is.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Update:

I had neglected to create the files directory per instructions. Duh. Better reading comprehension in order.
