Contact Authentication without login / password- using hash or facebook?
December 11, 2012, 11:46:29 am
We are trying to avoid forcing users to create an account / login /password, etc.  We want to be able to authenticate users however.  I know we can use a hash value for certain functions so I was thinking that we could have the user enter their email in a form, return their hash link and let them do something (like register for a non-public event.)  Does this sound like a reasonable approach?

1. Can we create a role for users authenticated by hash value?  just authenticated or can we create another role? Can we set a drupal context?
2. Are there limitations vs. user who is logged-in?
3. Has anyone done this before?
4. Are there any other authentication methods like facebook, that we can use w/out creating an account?

Thanks,
S.

We have set up a block before so people can enter email and be sent an email with checksum so they can update Profile without needing a Drupal account.

Not sure how easily I can dig out where we did that since Eileen if off-grid for a bit. But we might have blogged or posted about it in the forum.

Try 'eileen checksum profile'
