could we user the CB database to sync joomla users instead of the jos_users?

Has anyone actually managed to integrate CB with Joomla + Civicrm? On my site, the default registration is handled by community builder, so it's in jos_comprofiler that all the useful info like address, website etc is stored, not jos_users which only has name and email. Wouldn't it be great if we could set the CB table as the default to sync users into civicrm contacts. I imagine this would be horrendously complicated...but is there an active project at the moment? Community builder itself is looking to release a joomla1.5 native version in the upcoming release (1.2) so it would make sense to aim for that... :)

As I understand it, CB works by replacing the default Joomla login/registration process. It may still make use of jos_users to authenticate the user, but works with a one-way sync --- from the initial user registration through any ongoing changes to a user's profile, all data changes to the user record happen through CB. So there's never a need to sync from jos_user back to CB (again, as I understand CBs workflow).

I've used CB with a Civi site, but only to give me the ability to have admin approval for user registrations -- not for actually managing user data. Syncing between CB and Civi would definitely require more work given the flexibility of both applications, and the larger number of fields impacted.

But I do think that the CB model of how they usurp the default user registration/authentication is basically what needs to be done for CiviCRM.
