Membership Type not being set in invoice email

I don't see this in another thread, please redirect me if there is one.

The Membership Type is not in the invoice emails being sent. After the customized introductory text, the next lines (in a table) are:

Membership Information
Membership Type    
Membership Fee
and then the fee is described as expected.

Is there something I am missing?  A bug? a patch?  User error?

I seem to remember this as a 'thing' that has been discussed here but I can't find the discussion either.

If I recall it is a problem with the smarty template for the email and there was a pretty easy fix.

FWIW I'm having this problem now, too, although I'm pretty sure I'd patched to fix it once before.
