Outbound Mail Test Works, CiviMail does not work for own domain

Hello -

Here is our problem:

All email settings within Joomla and CiviCRM test out OK. Default Joomla email works. Outbound Email test in Civi settings works. But when it comes to sending an email to our own domain (@nd.edu), Civimail does not work. It will send fine to all other email accounts, but not our own domain.

I would normally say this is a server issue, but I'm not sure since all the other settings and tests work just fine going to an @nd.edu address. Civi even seems to think that the email is sent correctly as I do not see any errors generated.

I tried switching from mail() to smtp, but Civi does not seem to recognize our smtp settings.

Any help would be much appreciated.

1. check your mail log and see what it is reporting with regarding to local delivery

2. Can u elaborate on "civi does not seem to recognize our smtp settings"
